Promoting diversity is a pillar of Ashurst's commitment to being a great place to work. This is done through the firm's employment policies and practices, but more importantly in the way in which we treat our colleagues, and the other people we work with on a daily basis, with respect. It is the responsibility of everyone at Ashurst to promote diversity and sustain an inclusive and supportive culture.

General information and CSR

Ashurst is committed to providing equality of opportunity for all members of the firm and job applicants. Ashurst promotes and sustains an open, inclusive and supportive working environment. We recruit, develop and reward employees and partners on merit and without regard to background, colour, nationality, national or ethnic origin, race, age, religion or belief, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, disability or political views.

Diversity is one of four key focus points of our broader corporate social responsibility programme which also encompasses community involvement, place to work and environmental initiatives. It helps us to translate our beliefs into action and to integrate our social and environmental concerns with our day-to-day operations and our dealings with clients and the wider community.

Some examples of some of our diversity initiatives to date are:

Establishing a Women's Network which hosts internal and external events with a view to providing informative training, mentoring and inspiring role models for Ashurst women.

We have an active LBGT Network and host regular drinks events and get-togethers. We continually support London Friend by sponsoring it's participation in London Pride, and providing meeting rooms and resources for their charity meetings.

We have started a project with the RNID in order to gain their Louder than Words Chartemark.

We are a corporate sponsor of the Minority Lawyer's Conference 2009: Less Talk, More Action, to promote the Ashurst brand amongst black and minority ethnic lawyers.

The firm's diversity policy and programmes are the responsibility of our Human Resources Director. The firm also has a Diversity Committee which meets quarterly and is chaired by a nominated partner, Helen Burton, who has responsibility for diversity within the workplace
