BSc (Hons) Computing, University of Central Lancashire
I graduated from Uni way back in 2001, after which I moved to Germany to work for Fujitsu Siemens as a software/web developer. 5 years later and I decided it was time to return to the UK (by way of travels in Asia, America and South Pacific!). I joined Milkround in December 2006 as a web developer, working principally on our main websites Milkround, Second Post and Diversity. More recently I’ve been responsible for our CRM software project (Customer Relationship Management), as well as being IT project manager for the redevelopment of our Milkround.com website.
My day-to-day work changes constantly and is usually dependant on the project I’m working on at the time. Some days, especially at the beginning of a large project, I’ll spend a lot of time in meetings with the sales and support teams refining requirements and producing prototypes. After this, the days get longer as coding begins. It can be difficult to pull yourself away when you’re in the middle of something! In addition to the project work, I also get the occasional helpdesk request – a bug may have been found in one of our products and requires more urgent attention. There’s a very relaxed atmosphere in the office, but it can also be very challenging and demanding, especially when you’re close to a project deadline. That’s when we order in the pizza and make a weekend of it!
Working so closely with the other teams in the company, means you build up some great friendships both in and out of the office. Most of us can often be found in the pub across the road having a drink or two after work catching up on all the days' events. Did I mention that we love to party...?
